Numerical Analysis of Wing-Fuselage Joints for the fs36

Just last summer, Caroline, as part of her Bachelor thesis, ran some tests on a reference configuration of a wing-fuselage joint for the fs36. Said configuration didn’t use any specially designed joint. A CAD model for the joint with the flaps raised and lowered respectively were created. Nets were generated and both Euler and RANS calculations were performed.

During the analysis of the joint, the pressure gradient over specific profile sections and the whole wing were examined, along with lift distribution along the wing and, as part of the RANS calculations vortices and flow separation. As expected, the joint design used wasn’t very effective, leading to flow separation and reduced lift. The results gained here can be used as a reference for future wing-fuselage joint designs.
